New Life

On New Year's Eve, we went to church for a night of games, eating, visiting with friends, etc. We stayed much later than we had originally planned and didn't leave until about 11:15 p.m. Upon arriving home, we quickly got the kids ready for bed. By the time I got in to see Livvi, it was just past midnight. As I kissed her goodnight, her legs and feet were really fidgety (more than normal). I asked her what she as doing and she timidly said she apologized to God. I said "For what?". She said, "For my sins". WOW! It about made me speechless. I told her we'd talk more about it in the morning, but that I was very happy and God was, too!

I told Heather and the next day (technically later that same day), we asked her what happened that made her want to do that. She couldn't pinpoint anything or any person that said something to her. It was just something that has been on her mind/heart for more than a year. She is a hungry little girl, often wanting a Bible story before bed. She followed Jesus' command and example by being baptized on January 24.

A parent's primary responsibility, outside of devoting one's life to Christ, is making sure your kids get the same opportunity. I want to thank Jesus for saving my little girl (now my sister as well), for her junior church teacher (Gary), for Heather for her example and making many situations teachable ones, and for all who pray for our kids on a regular basis!

Quoting Joie

As Heather was changing Joie's stinking pull up this evening, Joie says, "Did I step in something?"

Conversation at the Dinner Table

After work today, I once again battled the snow on our driveway. I love snow, but let me tell you I am sick of it! Another 6-8 inches in the last 15-20 hours with more to come. We just surpassed the most snow ever in the Cincinnati area in the month of February! In fact, the snowfall we received this month is within 2 inches (at this moment) of surpassing our average annual snowfall!

This one really whipped me. I feel very tired and weak. I hinted to Heather this might be the end of the road for me and I told everyone at the table that I loved them. Livvi blurts out "What a drama king!" Lovely!

After dinner, Heather asked who wanted chocolate pudding for dessert. Everyone but I said they did! Livvi said, "you're not having pudding, Dad?!" I said I wasn't. She said, "but it helps prevent heart disease!"

Gotta get me some of that pudding!

My Wife Enters the Blogosphere

Despite urging on my part to have Heather add to our family blog, she has resisted. She is a wonderful writer and has a lot of great things to mention. Well, about a month ago, she started her own blog and I just realized, though I e-mailed some folks, I never posted it on our family's blog. Her theme is a neat idea and I hope you check it out and follow it regularly! As good of a writer as she is, she is an equally good cook! YUM! http://mamayum.blogspot.com

Joie the Jungler (Juggler)

With a handful of pencils, Joie announces she is learning how to jungle (her words), and tosses the pencils in the air.

Chip Off the Ol' Block

Livvi took a math assessment test last week that took a few hours and was broken up into four sessions. She got her score today and got a 2495 (104 points higher than when she took it at the beginning of the year. Here is what that score means:

She is "advanced" for 3rd grade

She is upper "on target" for 4th grade

She is mid "on target" for 5th grade

She is lower "on target" for 6th grade

"On target" means the student's score is where it needs to be on average for the grade listed. Apparently part of the reason the test took so long was because every time a student gets an answer correct, they add more difficult questions to the test, so as to better evaluate how they are developing. The score shows she is working hard and learning a lot. She is in the 95th percentile amongst grade-level peers. Though she is in 3rd grade, she just started 4th grade curriculum last week in math and language arts). Looks like Livvi is taking after her ol' dad (and mom, and grandmother, etc.). Congratulations, Livvi! Keep up the good work!
